It starts simple enough - you gradually find the jewels of your friends and can somehow extract them into battle for you, but not much else beyond that (or why would you even be on this quest?). Vivid Knight is a game better learned in a hands-on manner sometimes, the explanations and the amount of mechanics you need to take into consideration can be somewhat overwhelming.

Amelie thus has to journey through various dungeons into the Black Witch’s maze to turn them all back to normal. One day, the Black Witch arrives while she is out and turns the kingdom’s citizens into jewels. You play as Crystal Princess Amelie, described as a rambunctious princess that sneaks out of her kingdom’s castle to go elsewhere to play. What is this hands-off style, even? Well, let’s take it from the top. While being the first-ever title the studio has developed for the PC, Vivid Knight does have some pretty obvious hints of their mobile game heritage, with relatively large UI buttons and a mostly hands-off game style that I no doubt feel would lend itself well to the mobile platforms.

It was developed by the indie studio Asobism, known primarily for their mobile games like the Freakyforms series (for the Nintendo 3DS), Castle & Dragon, and Dragon Poker (both for Android and iOS).

One such game that would fall into the latter category is Vivid Knight. The Japanese have a signature animation style and incredibly eye-catching character design, large eyes, and wild hairdos.Īnyway, the larger Japanese studios developed most of the higher-end anime games there are comparatively fewer indie Japanese titles. I’ve got a relatively soft spot for anime-style graphics.
